3 Mistakes Killing Your Growth
and how to avoid them
When most people think about building a community to monetize their audience, their minds immediately jump to one thing — getting as many followers as possible.
Spoiler alert: It’s not about the numbers.
It’s about creating engagement, connection, and actual value. Let me tell you a quick story...
You’ve seen it happening yourself, if you followed along the Skool journey of some big communities.
Thing is, it happens everywhere.
From big names like Adonis Gang to the smaller, niche communities—you know what they all have in common?
They start strong. There’s excitement, growth, engagement.
But then, out of nowhere... crickets.
Engagement stalls. The community feels like it’s on life support, barely hanging on. And here’s the kicker: it’s not because they don’t have enough followers. It’s because they’re making the same three fundamental mistakes.
Let’s break them down:
1. Focusing on Numbers Over Engagement
The more members, the better, right?
Wrong.
It’s easy to get caught up in the member count, but numbers mean nothing if people aren’t engaging.
The truth is, even when you’re building an audience, 100 engaged followers are far more valuable than 10,000 passive ones.
Ask questions.
Have conversations.
Focus on connection.
Comment on their thoughts.
I’ve seen the most "successful" communities fall flat because they treated their members like numbers on a scoreboard.
2. Not Having a Clear "Why"
You’ve probably heard this before: people don’t join communities for what you offer, they join for why you’re doing it.
If your audience can’t immediately see the purpose behind your community, they’re going to lose interest fast.
Without a clear value proposition, there’s no reason for them to stick around.
My approach is simple: start with one clear problem you solve and build from there.
The rest of your offer will come naturally from your members as you continue to solve their evolving challenges.
3. Offering Too Much, Too Soon
This is where people get overwhelmed.
You think offering more is better—more topics, more courses, more features.
But too much, too fast is a recipe for confusion and burnout.
Focus on solving one main problem.
Everything else is secondary.
Let your community grow naturally, based on what your members actually need instead of trying to be everything at once.
I’m a firm believer in the power of connecting deeply with every founding member and solving problems in real-time, one step at a time.
What Does This Mean for You?
If you’ve been making any of these mistakes, don’t worry—you’re not alone. It’s easy to get caught up in the wrong metrics and lose sight of what truly matters.
Now, something for you to do:
Take a step back and audit your current community or audience-building strategy.
Ask yourself: are you truly connecting with your people?
If you find yourself slacking on it, it’s alright.
That’s why I’m building my free community—to show you how to build something that lasts.
